we aren't assholes. let us know if we need to take down any copyrighted content, and we're on that. if we posted some stuff that we didn't credit, or got the credit wrong, get at us about that too, and we'll fix it.
hit up amazon for a FREE philip glass sampler from orange mountain music. lots of good stuff on there, mostly from his film scoring work. beautiful work on candyman, PG.
and if this is your sort of thing, definitely check out the somewhat recent documentary on the man:
and i haven't forgotten that this is sesame street week across the nation. been loving those awesome google logos.
i stumbled upon this via dj ayres over at the ttlab blogay, and it's blinding brilliance demanded a posting over here. dj numark, who you'll know from jurassic 5, simultaneously showing and proving.
no idea why, but i'm totally feelin a double feature of gangsta rap mockumentaries tonight. fear of a black hat, followed up with cb4. might get a sack of biscuits to make it all official like.
having been pretty underwhelmed by tideland, i've bene holding off on this whole dr. parnassus thing, but having seen the trailer, i'm really looking forward to checking this thing out. it's dripping some epic baron munchausen vibes, in a really really good way.
halloween's over for '09, but extremely bad movies live forever. there's a new documentary coming out about troll 2 titled best worst movie, and i'm gonna do my best to get it here for a screening or something. not every bad movie can be as ridiculously bad as this (IT'S NOT EVEN ABOUT TROLLS!!!) and have an interesting back-story behind it.
for most people the morning after halloween is the perfect time to shower away all the fake blood clotting in your hair, sleep off a hangover and watch donnie darko. for me i had to watch it at the video rental spot cause no one reminded me about daylight savings time (thanks a lot, people i thought were my friends) and i suddenly had an hour to kill before the 10:30am staff meeting(!?).
the worst part was that during the walking into school scene the damn disc skipped.
and yeah, i posted this a few months ago, but it's borked for whatever reason and it's still awesome. so there.
But I've been having some of my first I HATE YOU APPLE! moments lately... I'm trying to put it behind me, mostly with the aid of this adorable photograph
i'm totally hijacking this post from stacy over at nerdtorious.
from the write up over there:
"I made this for Tommy Boy as a promo item in the late ’90s to reintroduce myself to the public. It was to launch off the reissue of Psychoanalysis and a new project, A Prince Among Thieves. I just wanted to make something different from the old traditional mixtape that was out at the time. I had my friends and mom do little intro pieces to the songs.
I wanted to make it appear like I was this elusive, eclectic guy, and they were describing my work to those who weren’t familiar with me. The photo [on the back] is a picture of my son when he was about 3 or 4. He was always facinated with the turntables now he’s a DJ himself at 17. I put a lot of work into that tape, I’m glad that it’s still being enjoyed."
the weekend has begun. i'll be chilling with psychoanalysis (what is it?) for a while.
mike 2600 and king otto of burlesque design outta the twin cities, put together this, their third annual halloween mix of old school tunes. like, really old school. listening to this is actually my idea of a great way to spend haloween even if there's actually not anything exceptionally halloween related on here.
a friend of mine pointed out that a lot of people are saying that the convenience store dude was on pretty obviously on ketamine, and having watched a few youtube videos of people on ketamine, i definitely think this was the case. i'll let y'all do your own super-sleuthing on youtube, but dang if finding this little almost completely unrelated video totally made my night.
so, everyone's seen this clip. everyone. it's crazy, right?
well, i passed on posting up the above video the first time around due to its ubiquity, but this silentified version takes the cake for A) shortening the hell out of it, and B) making it a zillion billion times better.
i really hope that "silent film" is the new "benny hill music" of youtube videos.
