"I made this for Tommy Boy as a promo item in the late ’90s to reintroduce myself to the public. It was to launch off the reissue of Psychoanalysis and a new project, A Prince Among Thieves. I just wanted to make something different from the old traditional mixtape that was out at the time. I had my friends and mom do little intro pieces to the songs.

I wanted to make it appear like I was this elusive, eclectic guy, and they were describing my work to those who weren’t familiar with me. The photo [on the back] is a picture of my son when he was about 3 or 4. He was always facinated with the turntables now he’s a DJ himself at 17. I put a lot of work into that tape, I’m glad that it’s still being enjoyed."

a friend of mine pointed out that a lot of people are saying that the convenience store dude was on pretty obviously on ketamine, and having watched a few youtube videos of people on ketamine, i definitely think this was the case. i'll let y'all do your own super-sleuthing on youtube, but dang if finding this little almost completely unrelated video totally made my night.

well, i passed on posting up the above video the first time around due to its ubiquity, but this silentified version takes the cake for A) shortening the hell out of it, and B) making it a zillion billion times better.

this s one of the creepiest things i've ever been witness to. who woulda thunk that totally unintentionally nightmare inducing 80s cheeze would be total halloween spine tingling fodder.

not too much greatness going on here, but worth posting if only so someone could confirm or deny if one of dudes t-shirts is a richard kern photo. maybe a terry richardson. that's pretty much the only think i can think about while watching this.

parting thoughts: anyone ever bring to d. poppi's attention that deuce is bathroom code for taking a shit, and not something you want to associate yourself with. deuce poppi sounds like poop flavored dippin' dots or someething similar.

Yesterday I drove past the animal ER where my cat died, and it got me thinking about this beautiful and under appreciated genre of internet film, the "my pet just died, let's make a youtube video with a teary-eyed soundtrack"

one of my favorite dudes is kozyndan. the whole "japan's sooo weird, but at the same time sooo cute" vibe is all over his work, but it's seems to really transcend any easily pigeonholeable categories.

i've ridden pretty hard for the guy since way back when he was reimagining every cool woodblock print ever with except with bunnies. now i stumble onto his flickr and hit paydirt.



the real cool little bit was this HUGE spirit animal collective thing he's been working on for a while.

from the kozyndan site: "little did we know that cameras, at least in early incarnations before the invention of modern film, did in fact capture a piece of one's soul with each picture. Hhre is a class photo where all the students spirit animals have emerged to pose with their 'bodies.'"

i'm really hoping that the slightly gauzy nature of the shirt so as to effect a slight see-throughness was an aesthetic decision on the part of the designer.

i scored the set of hair-color coded playboy books (redheads, blondes, brunettes) a while back, and this was easily one of my favorite models.

my parting shot for star wars week is kinda weak. the whole kanye meme was limp from the beginning, but this was just out there enough to make the cut. a slight dig on ms. gaga seals the deal.

how wild was the turnover of this whole kanye meme thing? not more than a couple hours after he was off the stage and there were youtube vids mashing dude up with obama... and now it's pretty much gone-zo (for the better i'd like to think).

these star wars mimobots are awesome. expensive, but awesome. this guy up above is apparently a one in six rarity sort of thing, which sucks since he's the coolest flash drive ever. the r2d2 and c3po are also super-duper, but should come as a two pack cause you kinda need to have em both.
