it's been an extra slow week for me, but i'm dropping in for a hot second to represent my second favorite song from jack and the skellingtons.

ancient prince paul mix

Friday, October 23, 2009 by Chris

i'm totally hijacking this post from stacy over at nerdtorious.

from the write up over there:

"I made this for Tommy Boy as a promo item in the late ’90s to reintroduce myself to the public. It was to launch off the reissue of Psychoanalysis and a new project, A Prince Among Thieves. I just wanted to make something different from the old traditional mixtape that was out at the time. I had my friends and mom do little intro pieces to the songs.

I wanted to make it appear like I was this elusive, eclectic guy, and they were describing my work to those who weren’t familiar with me. The photo [on the back] is a picture of my son when he was about 3 or 4. He was always facinated with the turntables now he’s a DJ himself at 17. I put a lot of work into that tape, I’m glad that it’s still being enjoyed."

the weekend has begun. i'll be chilling with psychoanalysis (what is it?) for a while.

halloween mix of not-so-halloween music!

by Chris

mike 2600 and king otto of burlesque design outta the twin cities, put together this, their third annual halloween mix of old school tunes. like, really old school. listening to this is actually my idea of a great way to spend haloween even if there's actually not anything exceptionally halloween related on here.

mike the 2600 king & king otto: monster mash 2009

these are the same design dudes behind the do it to it eps i've gone on and on about in the past. remember them? no?

also, these are the dudes behind the wigged out covers of patton oswalt's super limited (500!) feelin kinda patton vinyl. pick up a slick as hell screenprint of the unfolded cover for 30 bucks plus shipping if that's your bag.

searching youtube for special k

by Chris

a friend of mine pointed out that a lot of people are saying that the convenience store dude was on pretty obviously on ketamine, and having watched a few youtube videos of people on ketamine, i definitely think this was the case. i'll let y'all do your own super-sleuthing on youtube, but dang if finding this little almost completely unrelated video totally made my night.

larry goes to the market

Thursday, October 22, 2009 by Chris
so, everyone's seen this clip. everyone. it's crazy, right?

well, i passed on posting up the above video the first time around due to its ubiquity, but this silentified version takes the cake for A) shortening the hell out of it, and B) making it a zillion billion times better.

i really hope that "silent film" is the new "benny hill music" of youtube videos.

total eclipse

by Chris

this s one of the creepiest things i've ever been witness to. who woulda thunk that totally unintentionally nightmare inducing 80s cheeze would be total halloween spine tingling fodder.

awesome pool party at the w!

Monday, October 19, 2009 by Chris

not too much greatness going on here, but worth posting if only so someone could confirm or deny if one of dudes t-shirts is a richard kern photo. maybe a terry richardson. that's pretty much the only think i can think about while watching this.

parting thoughts: anyone ever bring to d. poppi's attention that deuce is bathroom code for taking a shit, and not something you want to associate yourself with. deuce poppi sounds like poop flavored dippin' dots or someething similar.

all praise to the internet god

by Chris

you're thinking "this is amazing." then you're thinking "there is no way this can get better." then you're all "holy shit it just got so much better." and then right before it's over, your jaw hits the floor due to overwhelming amounts of awesome. and then you pretty much have to watch it all over again cause it's one of the most perfectest things god has ever allowed on this planet.

the atomic level of porn

Friday, October 16, 2009 by Chris

here's one hour of a dude, jason scott, talking about the history of low bandwidth porn! no joke, this is one of the nerdiest things i've ever seen pertaining to porn, and i've seen A LOT of nerdy porn. a lot of the computer jargon is way over my head, but it never loses you in the long run.

lord knows i'm looking forward to the leisure suit larry documentary he's apparently been working on for a while.

al jarnow short films

by Chris

man this looks so cool. for those not in the know, al jarnow was the dude behind a whole slew of the trippy stop motion animation stuff you might half remember from sesame street or maybe some other pbs thing you might have caught sometime in your childhood.

i'm still not sure why chicago reissue record label the numero group has decided to put this out (sometime in late february), but i'm pretty happy someone out there is.

trey songz invented sex

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 by Chris

i didn't know that it was possible to take the filthy genius of r. kelly and directly market it to middle schoolers. clove cigarettes are getting banned due to their apparent underage target audience, but this flies somehow. and yet... and yet, i cannot look away. there's something about the sexual monosyllabicism and not uninteresting production that really draws me in.

this is the first time i've dumped some html from lala in here, so shout at me if it goes bad on you and i'll fix it if i can.

halloween beat of the day

by Chris

halloween's looking to be pretty great this year. i'll be working at the video spot through the vast majority of it, but at least people there are gonna get my baseball fury costume and i won't be fielding accusations of of being a zombie baseball player for an entire weekend.

Dead Pet Special

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 by Zita
Yesterday I drove past the animal ER where my cat died, and it got me thinking about this beautiful and under appreciated genre of internet film, the "my pet just died, let's make a youtube video with a teary-eyed soundtrack"

kozyndan!

Monday, October 12, 2009 by Chris

one of my favorite dudes is kozyndan. the whole "japan's sooo weird, but at the same time sooo cute" vibe is all over his work, but it's seems to really transcend any easily pigeonholeable categories.

i've ridden pretty hard for the guy since way back when he was reimagining every cool woodblock print ever with except with bunnies. now i stumble onto his flickr and hit paydirt.

the real cool little bit was this HUGE spirit animal collective thing he's been working on for a while.

from the kozyndan site: "little did we know that cameras, at least in early incarnations before the invention of modern film, did in fact capture a piece of one's soul with each picture. Hhre is a class photo where all the students spirit animals have emerged to pose with their 'bodies.'"

these pictures are small as fuck, but check the details for the real deal.

after seeing this i almost want to cancel my order for that stupid expensive box set. this pile of offal has tainted the beatles that much for me i think.

thanks to monkeys for helping for making me rethink my purchasing habits.

star wars week ended last week, but i still have a handful of straggling content remaining, none of which will likely make zita puke a bit in her mouth.

totally changed the youtube clip in the xzibit meme post a couple posts ago and forgot to change the subject which directly references the youtube clip i tossed out. this here is the clip which sort of helps things make sense... sort of.

hello yourself

by Chris

willy rey

by Chris

i just did a touch of homework, and coppertop i the stovepipe hat was named willy rey. she was the playboy playmate for the february 1971 issue, back when the pages of playboy actually featured women who might have really been the girl next door (those days coming back anytime soon, playboy?).

when playboy made its first offering of stock later in the year it was willy rey's nude image what graced the notes.

sadly she passed away due to an overdose of sleeping pills less than three years after she appeared in the magazine.

gee xzibit... two weiners?

by Chris

now here's a meme i'd like to see get revisited. so much potential.

this links to the encyclopediadramatica. you have been warned.

classy, brah. classy.

sign language

by Chris

i'm really hoping that the slightly gauzy nature of the shirt so as to effect a slight see-throughness was an aesthetic decision on the part of the designer.

that classy shit

by Chris

the playboy of 40 years ago was some of the classiest stuff in the entire history of women taking their clothes off for money/fame (see the above exhibit a).

i scored the set of hair-color coded playboy books (redheads, blondes, brunettes) a while back, and this was easily one of my favorite models.

dudes are always all about a girl getting fancy in the bedroom what with the frilly underthings. all i'm asking for a is a tophat. abe lincoln roleplay says what?

new ghostface is...

Monday, October 5, 2009 by Chris

PURE. HOT. FIRE. how could it not be with such a bugged out cover? wizard of poetry? perfect. dude's saying it's a "more mature" direction for him, but i dunno bout that...

Ghostface "Stapleton Sex" video trailer from Miss Info on Vimeo.

here's a clip from a super-recent myspace freebie promotional concert thing with ghostface, jadakiss, redman, u-god & large professor. not to be trifled with.

Want Moar?

IT'S AN ALREADY OUTDATED KANYE MEME IMAGE!!!

by Chris

my parting shot for star wars week is kinda weak. the whole kanye meme was limp from the beginning, but this was just out there enough to make the cut. a slight dig on ms. gaga seals the deal.

how wild was the turnover of this whole kanye meme thing? not more than a couple hours after he was off the stage and there were youtube vids mashing dude up with obama... and now it's pretty much gone-zo (for the better i'd like to think).

pronounced meeeee-mo

by Chris

these star wars mimobots are awesome. expensive, but awesome. this guy up above is apparently a one in six rarity sort of thing, which sucks since he's the coolest flash drive ever. the r2d2 and c3po are also super-duper, but should come as a two pack cause you kinda need to have em both.

remember butt week?

i miss the hell outta butt week.

the first line of this is so incredibly perfect. remember when college humor used to be a little more than a few videos of guys beer bonging bottles of jack daniels and girls getting farted on? i'm not saying they're up there with the greats, but dang if they haven't moved up a pretty fair amount in the world in recent years.

that's not a moon...!

secret admission: halloween is one of my least favorite holidays. having said that, i'm totally doing this jack-o-lantern thing up right for 2009.
